There are a few different options for storing your boat when you are not using it during the warm months when you want to boat frequently. Of course you can take the boat back and forth between the water and your home and or storage facility. This is probably the least complicated method in that you do not have to worry about where your boat is or what is happening to it because it is sitting inside your garage. However, there are some definite reasons why this would not work for everyone. First of all, if you travel great distances or if getting to the water requires a lot of uphill or downhill traveling, it might cost you a fortune in gas to transport the boat and you would actually save money by paying to store it on the water. Also, if you plan on towing it back and forth you would need a vehicle strong enough to do so and again this might cost you a great deal of money to drive such a vehicle towing the boat behind you.
So, if you do not want to pull it back and forth to your home, then perhaps storage closer to the water but not actually on the water might be preferable for your needs. If there is a self-storage facility relatively close to where you always boat, this might be ideal. You can store your trailer and boat there and then take your vehicle to the storage facility, drive it a short distance to the water, then return it at the end of the day. Of course, this would still entail that you have a vehicle strong enough to tow the boat and you would not be sure of its safety at all times as it would be away from you. Another problem might be if you do not only boat at one water location. For example, if there are several different lakes or ports that you like to boat from and you store your boat near one, it might make it difficult to really get good use of it elsewhere.
This last difficulty would also be true if you stored your boat on the water at a dock or port site that you rent. But, if that is not an issue and you only boat at that one location, then storing your boat there might be perfect for you. It does not take any transportation time or costs, you do not need to worry about owning a trailer or having a vehicle large enough to tow the trailer and boat with it. You can simply show up on a bus, bike, or motor scooter and hop into the boat and off you go.
